Experience Real-World Training in a Long-Term Care Home
triOS College, in partnership with Niagara Ina Grafton Gage Village, is proud to introduce an innovative Personal Support Worker (PSW) program located within a healthcare facility in St. Catharines, Ontario.
This unique opportunity is made possible through the Living Classroom grant, providing students with hands-on training in a long-term care (LTC) home, ensuring they gain invaluable real-world experience while learning.
What is the Living Classroom?
The Living Classroom is a pioneering partnership model that integrates education directly into a long-term care or retirement home. This approach supports workforce development in senior living by fostering a culture of shared learning among students, faculty, residents, and staff.
Benefits of the Living Classroom
- Real-Life Experience: Students engage in practical, hands-on learning from day one, participating in all aspects of the program, including theory, labs, and placement within the LTC setting.
- Seamless Transition to Practice: The immersive environment ensures a smooth transition from classroom learning to practical application.
- Meaningful Relationships: Direct interaction with residents cultivates meaningful relationships and a profound understanding of their unique needs.
- Networking Opportunities: Students have the chance to network with healthcare professionals and potential employers within the facility.
- Community-Based Learning: The program provides access to a post-secondary educator program closer to where students live, making education more accessible.
- Comprehensive Skill Development: Students gain the aptitude and capability to care for and provide services to older adults and their families.
Career Opportunities
As a PSW, there is flexibility when it comes to choosing your path in the industry. Although a majority of these professionals work for private and not-for-profit home care agencies, others are employed by nursing homes and hospitals.
