Hamilton and Kitchener McDonald’s restaurants, Y108 and triOS College are offering some “Food for Thought” to potential students by awarding a total of $50,000 in scholarships to triOS College. Interested students can head to any Hamilton or Kitchener area McDonald’s restaurants, collect a ballot and write a short essay on why they feel they should be one of the five students (in each city) to get a $5,000 scholarship towards any triOS Diploma program.

“Food for Thought” scholarship is available to any triOS Diploma student who submits a ballot and a short essay regarding why they deserve to be selected.

Beginning now through July 31, 2011, interested students can apply for a chance to be honoured with the scholarship. The ballots are available at the front counter and on tray liners at all Hamilton and Kitchener McDonald’s locations. Applicants can also log onto y108.ca and enter the scholarship contest there.

One of last year’s winners, Omwattie Singh was chosen for the scholarship because of her determination and strength. In her early 20’s, Singh was valedictorian of her high school and then attended McMaster University. While at McMaster, her education was hindered when she became the victim of a stroke. This jeopardized her entire career and almost any chance of achieving her goal to enter the health field. The scholarship was the push she needed to get back into the career she had always dreamed of. Singh had this to say: “I am absolutely honoured to be chosen as one of the recipients of the scholarship! This scholarship has helped pay for the Pharmacy Assistant program and secure a career for me out in the workforce. This scholarship will help to define me as a woman who strives for a great education.”

Last year the Food for Thought Scholarship produced job ready graduates in the Business, Law, Technology and Healthcare industries. For more information about this wonderful opportunity you can log onto www.y108.ca or www.trios.com/y108.
